Airbag light still on after an accident?

After a collision, the airbag control module can store crash data. Even after damaged airbags or seat belts have been replaced, the warning light may remain on because the crash information is still stored inside the module.

This is where an airbag module reset may be required.

The same unit may also be described as the SRS module, airbag ECU, airbag control unit or airbag computer.

Three steps

Airbag module reset: how it works

Search the part number, or send a photo. Post only the module from Leeds or West Yorkshire. We reset it and send it back.

  1. Find your module

Search using the part number printed on the label. Can't find it? Send us a photo and we will identify it for you.

  2. Post the module to us

Order the reset online and send only the airbag module to our workshop using a tracked service.

  3. We reset and return it

We clear the stored crash data, test the module and send it back to you. Most modules received in the morning are completed the same day.

Why does my airbag module need resetting?

These are the usual reasons people get in touch after a collision.

Airbags deployed in a crash

When airbags or seat-belt pretensioners deploy, collision information can be stored inside the airbag control module.

Airbags replaced but the light is still on

Replacing the damaged parts doesn't necessarily remove the crash data stored inside the module.

Diagnostic tool shows crash data

If your garage has scanned the vehicle and found stored crash data in the SRS control unit, the module may require resetting.

Been told you need a new airbag module?

Before buying another module, send us your original unit's part number. In many cases the original module can be reset and reused.

Airbag module reset Leeds FAQs

Can an airbag module be reset after a crash?

Often yes. If the airbag control module itself is undamaged and only holds crash data, we can clear that stored crash record so the original module can be refitted. WhatsApp a photo of the label and we will confirm before you post.

Do I need to replace my airbag module after an accident?

Not necessarily. Dealers often quote a new unit. If your existing module contains crash data and the hardware is sound, a crash data reset of the original module is usually enough. Send us the part number or a photo before you buy a replacement.

Will resetting the module turn my airbag warning light off?

If deployed airbags, seat belts and other physical SRS faults have already been repaired, and the remaining problem is stored crash data, resetting the module is what lets the warning light clear. If wiring or hardware faults are still present, the light can stay on.

How do I find my airbag module part number?

It is printed on the sticker on the module. It might look like 5Q0 959 655, 0285012345 or 8K0 959 655. Search it in the box above, or WhatsApp a clear photo of the whole label and we will identify it.

Do I need to send the whole car?

No. Send only the airbag module. Your garage keeps the vehicle, removes the module, and refits it when it comes back.

Can my garage send the module directly to you?

Yes. Garages and bodyshops in Leeds and the surrounding area can remove the module, post it to us, and we send it back to the workshop ready to refit. Trade accounts are available if you send modules regularly.

Does the airbag module need coding after it is reset?

Most cars just need the original module refitted after a crash data reset. Some vehicles still need a garage scan tool to clear remaining lights. We will say if that is likely when we see the label.

How long does an airbag module reset take?

For most modules, if we receive it in the morning, we complete the crash data reset and send it back the same day.

What happens if you cannot reset my module?

If we inspect the module and cannot complete the reset, we refund the reset fee. Outbound postage you paid to send it is usually not refundable.

Can I send you a photo before I order?

Yes. That is the easiest way if you are not sure. WhatsApp a clear photo of the whole label and we will tell you whether we can reset it, which service you need, the price, and where to send it.

Can a Leeds or Bradford garage send the module?

Yes. Garages across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield already remove the airbag module as part of the repair. They can post it to us and we send it back ready to refit.
