Most post-crash airbag lights do not need a brand-new ECU. A postal reset clears crash data from the module you already own.
Reset when the module is intact and only locked with crash data or a clearable fault. Replace when the ECU is damaged or cannot be repaired. Dealers often default to replace because selling a new unit is their path. Specialists like us default to reset when it is safe and possible.

A postal reset keeps your original, matched ECU in most cases. A new dealer module often runs to hundreds of pounds plus coding time. A used breaker unit can arrive locked or still need coding. That is why “just buy another one” is rarely the first sensible step after a typical crash repair.

When the reset is done, we send your module back the way you choose at checkout. Royal Mail Tracked 24, Tracked 48, or free workshop collect if you are picking it up in Manchester. That return leg is separate from the reset price.
If the module hardware is undamaged and only holds crash data or a clearable fault, a reset is usually better: lower cost, keeps your original ECU, and avoids coding a brand-new unit. Most resets are £35, complex £46, motorhome B0100-49 £65.
Replace when the ECU is physically damaged, water damaged, burnt, or we confirm it cannot be reset. If we cannot do the job, we tell you rather than take the order.
A proper crash data clear returns the module to a usable state for refitting after bags and belts are correctly repaired. It does not replace deployed airbags. Safety repairs on the vehicle still have to be done properly.
Usually you refit your own module and the light clears once the restraint system is complete. Brand-new replacement ECUs often need dealer coding. That is one reason resets save time and money.
A used module can arrive locked with someone else’s crash data, or need coding to your vehicle. Resetting your own original ECU avoids that gamble in most post-crash cases.
